🔴 LYRICS

[Verse]
From Oahu shores, a voice took flight
Sweet tenor, ukulele's light
Our beloved IZ was a legend bold
A sweet story waiting to unfold

[Chorus 1] Giant frame, with a gentle soul
Loved his land, and made music whole
His voice was so bright
Rainbow's magic, took to flight
Rainbow's magic, took to flight ]

[Bridge]
One voice, two classics, intertwined
A melody forever enshrined
Number one, a record grand
His legacy, across the land

[Chorus 2]
A powerful frame, yet kind within
He loved his land and made music win
His voice, a beacon ever-bright
With rainbow's magic, taking flight

[Outro]
Dear friend…
Though gone too soon, your spirit strong
Aloha from faraway
Your voice echoes, every day
May your soul rest in peace
Always… over the rainbow
… Ciao from Italy!

🔴 IZ Story

‘IZ’ Story ➖ Israel ‘IZ’ Kamakawiwo'ole Life Story in 10 Steps, from 1959 to 1997 🎤
1. Israel 'IZ' Kamakawiwo'ole (Oahu, 20 May 1959 - Honolulu, 26 June 1997) was an American singer and musician native of Hawaii. It is also known by the pseudonyms ‘Bruddah Iz’, or ‘Bradda IZ’, or simply ‘IZ’.
2. A man of buddha size with a sweet tenor voice and a gentle ukulele - this is how we could summarize Israel 'IZ' Kamakawiwo'ole. But more than that he's a Hawaiian legend and one of the most successful world music artists ever.
3. After successful years as a member of a band, Israel decided to start his solo career in 1990. His album FACING FUTURE (1993) has been the starting point for his international success.
4. In 'Facing Future' IZ executed (in a version with just the ukulele accompaniment, played by the same Kamakawiwo'ole) the medley of the songs 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' (which was written in 1939 and played by Judy Garland in the column score for the film 'The Wizard of Oz') and 'What a Wonderful World' (standard brought to success by Louis Armstrong).
5. This medley was included on the soundtracks of several films: K-Pax, Meet Joe Black, Finding Forrester, Son of the Mask, 50 First Dates, Fred Claus and IMAX: Hubble 3D. It was also featured in TV series ER, American Dad!, Scrubs, Cold Case, Glee, South Pacific, Lost, Storm Chasers.
6. The medley holds the distinction of being the longest-leading number one hit on any of the Billboard's Longest-Leading No. 1 Songs, through charts dated Oct. 25, 2014, having spent 185 weeks at number one on the publication's World Digital Songs chart.
7. At some point in his later years, Israel Iz converted to Christianity. In 1996 he was baptized at the World of Life Christian Center in Honolulu and spoke publicly about his beliefs at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. He also recorded the song "Ke Alo O Iesu" (translated as 'The Presence of Jesus').
8. In the latter part of his life Israel 'IZ' Kamakawiwo'ole has suffered from a severe form of obesity, coming to weigh 340 kg being tall 188 cm., which was even more out the contrast between the size of his body and the tiny ukulele played by him.
9. He died from respiratory problems on 26 June 1997, at the age of 38 years. The Hawaii state flag flew at half-staff the whole day on July 10, 1997, the day of Kamakawiwoʻole's funeral. His body was exposed to the Capitol Building in Honolulu, where more than 10,000 people paid tribute to him. Thousands of fans gathered when his ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean at Mākua Beach on July 12, 1997.
10. Iz was nicknamed 'The Good Giant' by his admirers. It is also remembered as being one of the last full-blooded Hawaiians: always smiling and optimistic about him was particularly appreciated the love he felt for his land and his people.
R.I.P. over the rainbow, dear 'IZ', and sing again for us.

'Ciao' from Italy!
