New Year's Fortune Telling Tradition in Finland

New Year’s Fortune Telling ✨ On New Year’s Eve, Finns used to melt tin horseshoes to predict the new year based on the shape of tin.🥳

But, since tin has poisonous lead, we now do this tradition with beeswax! 🐝

Here’s how you do it:

1️⃣ Melt the beeswax safely in a water bath. It melts at about 60°C/140°F.
2️⃣ Pour into cold water.
3️⃣ Tell the fortune by checking out beeswax shadow and shape.

Some popular beliefs:

🔸 Long ribbons or sticks encourage you to have patience in the new year.
🔸 A rugged, uneven surface means money and wealth.
🔸 Lace-like edges mean admirers and suitors are in your future.
🔸 If it breaks, it will be a busy year. More pieces…. The busier it will be.
🔸 Tiny tear-shaped pieces mean tears.

🌱 You can re-melt the wax, it just needs to be dry.

Safety first. If beeswax catches fire, it should be extinguished using a fire blanket, water doesn’t help.
