Last Date, by Floyd Cramer, Kenon D. Renfrow, pianist

First released in 1960, Last Date is an instrumental written and performed by Floyd Cramer (1933-1997), a popular self-taught American pianist of his day. His playing is characterized by the “slip note” style of piano playing where a non-harmonic tone slides into a harmonic tone, usually played as a grace note (sometimes more like an appoggiatura) with the interval of a third above. Most often, the melody is the embellished note on the bottom of the third while the harmony rides above. The piece made it all the way to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. It is one of the first pieces I remember playing as a child, long before taking piano lessons.
