Scary Takeoff - Tow Plane Too Slow for Glider

This is a great example of a tow plane taking off too early and flying too slowly for a glider loaded up with water to maximum gross weight. The tow pilot is a great friend of mine and was new to this tow plane and still getting used to it. After this tow and our talking on the ground he didn't have any more issues and I greatly appreciate his willingness to tow us glider up! We can all keep learning and improving. This is a great example of a glider pilot needing to be more assertive/aggressive communicating with the tow plane pilot what their needs are. I should have said something right as he was taking off and pulling up at 50 knots. This speed is way too slow for a modern racing glider full of water! Most modern gliders need at least 65 knots to be somewhat comfortable on tow. Some gliders like a JS1 full of water need 75 knots at least! Thanks to all the tow pilots who make it possible for us glider pilots to get up into the air. This video was in no way meant as a criticism but as an example of a tow that was not perfect by all parties involved. Thanks for watching! Bruno
