@TheStraightPipes First Helicopter Flight | Micah Flies

​@TheStraightPipes is a massively popular automotive YouTube channel. Behind that popularity are a pair of delightful Canadians from Toronto named Yuri Tereshyn and Jakub Wrobel. Over the past year or so I’ve built a friendly relationship with Yuri and Jakub. After countless Instagram chats and texts, we finally met when The Straight Pipes recently visited Los Angeles. As a proper host I offered to show them LA the best way possible, with a helicopter tour.

Funny thing. Neither Jakub nor Yuri have ever flown in a helicopter before. So, trusting their lives to me, a guy they’d only met in real life hours prior, took quite a bit of trust. Thankfully, The Straight Pipes were down to tour LA via helicopter because the weather was perfect, and we wound up having an amazing time.

For this flight I rented a Robinson R44 rather than fly my trusty Enstrom 280C. With only a 3-seat bench, my Enstrom is cozy with 3 dudes aboard. With 4 seats, room to stretch out, and a higher top speed, the R44 made our helicopter tour of Los Angeles much more comfortable. Even so, after shooting this video Yuri and Jakub boarded my Enstrom for a helicopter review on their YouTube channel. The Straight Pipes are definitely down for adventure. During our flight we spotted the Goodyear Blimp and the Porsche Experience Center, we flew 100 feet above the shoreline past LAX, saw Venice Beach and the Santa Monica Pier, flew through the mountains, and buzzed Mat Watson from Carwow while he was filming a Jeep Gladiator video. As if that wasn’t enough fun, I also interviewed Yuri and Jakub to learn about their goals, dream cars, work life, hobbies, how they got their start, and how they’ve built such a successful channel. Oh yeah, and I got some coaching and advice on how you and I can be more successful with our own YouTube channels.

Sure, Yuri and Jakub make awesome car videos but they’re also stellar humans. I found them to be fun, honest, eager, authentic, and immensely talented. Plus, I think we’re friends now. If you haven’t subscribed to their channel, please do so now. They’ve earned your love.
