Monitoring multimodal data reliability during maritime remote pilotage - Morgan Louedec

The emergence of remote pilotage operations for merchant vessels requires human pilots to increasingly rely on remotely acquired sensor data, thereby creating a critical need for algorithms that assess and monitor data reliability. Such reliability can be characterized by evaluating the consistency of sensor measurements during cross-validation. Although various data fusion strategies have been developed to robustify the perception, existing global fusion approaches are limited to homogeneous sensor modalities. In this presentation, we introduce a monitoring framework for remote pilotage operations that addresses sensor heterogeneity through context aware cross-evaluation between modalities. Simulation results illustrate the capability of the proposed pipeline to detect inconsistencies.
