The Lynx R2 is a new standalone mixed reality headset from a small French startup, and it's making some big claims. 126 degrees horizontal field of view, the widest of any standalone VR headset on the market. Wider than Quest 3. Wider than Pimax Crystal Light. Wider than the original Lynx R1.

It's powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, features dual LCD displays rumored to have been sourced from a cancelled Quest 4 project, and uses new curved pancake lenses developed with Hypervision. It was originally supposed to launch with Android XR, but Google pulled out of the partnership, so now it's running LynxOS based on Android 14.

Lynx is also going full open source with this one. Unlocked bootloader, raw sensor access, full offline functionality, and they're releasing the schematics and blueprints. It's a very different approach than Meta or Apple.
