n this orchestral mockup, I recreate “12 Years Later” from Treasure Planet, composed by the incredible James Newton Howard.
For me, Treasure Planet is not only one of my favorite films of all time, but also home to one of my favorite film soundtracks ever written. Growing up with this movie as a child, its music left a lasting impression on me — especially the emotional beauty and sense of adventure captured throughout the score.
Looking back, soundtracks like Treasure Planet and Star Wars may very well be part of the reason I began my journey into composition. They inspired my love for orchestral storytelling and cinematic music, and continue to influence me to this day. Because of that, recreating this piece felt especially meaningful.
“12 Years Later” is one of the score’s most heartfelt and nostalgic themes, beautifully capturing the emotion, wonder, and bittersweet spirit of the story — all brought to life through James Newton Howard’s unforgettable writing.
This mockup was entirely produced using MIDI orchestration and orchestral sample libraries, with the goal of recreating the depth, emotion, and atmosphere of a live orchestral performance as closely as possible.
