Lego Racers Speedrun (48:30)

NOTES!

The controls in this game can be really slippery and annoying, but with practice it gets easier. The most important part of this game is getting 1 green block and 3 white blocks, which gives you a warp power up. This is the best power up in the game, so the most basic and essential strategy for speedrunning this game is to maximize the number of warps you get per race. Other than that there aren't many general rules for going fast in this game other than cutting corners.

-- First circuit --
So the first two races/final races in this circuit are pretty normal, I just get warps and lap people. The third track is special, though. The lap triggers for this race are placed on the first stretch of track for some reason, so the fastest way to complete the race is to drive up and down that stretch of track until it's over. Fourth track went well, because the stupid AI characters usually like to steal all the white pieces.

-- Second circuit --
First race was okay, but it could have gone better because some white pieces were stolen from me. Second race went really well on the first lap, but I messed up sliding through the pillars on the second lap and missed a white block. Someone stole another on the third lap too. Third race had no major mistakes, despite almost missing a white block at the beginning of lap 2. Final track is very hard to do perfectly; having to grab a white block and a green block while coming out of a warp every lap combined with the RNG is really difficult. I had to pause on the last lap so I could get my last warp, but that was the only major mistake.

-- Third circuit --
This is the most difficult circuit for me. In track 1, if you miss the first boost, the race is pretty much a loss. Fortunately that didn't happen and the race went pretty much perfect. Second race is one of the most difficult for me in the entire game because it's so easy to miss white pieces, so it didn't go so well at the beginning (I missed a warp right off the bat). It finished pretty nicely though. Third track is another really hard one. I had god awful RNG on the second lap with AI stealing 3 important white bricks combined with me accidentally losing a green brick, plus missing a warp on the last lap. So I can't really say it went well. On the final track with the UFOs, you can use a shield as soon as they pass over you and you get a huge speed boost (probably a glitch), and I hit that on the first lap. I also missed a warp on the last lap, but I probably only lost a couple seconds because I used two green-2 white power ups instead. This circuit could have been better.

-- Fourth circuit --
Has all the same strategies as the first circuit, but they're usually easier to pull off because Johnny Thunder is a nice person. I kind of screwed up the 3rd race by missing a warp, but the rest of the circuit went well.

-- Fifth circuit --
The fourth circuit is easier than the first, but I can't say the same about this one being easier than the second. Someone stole a green on the last lap of the first race, so I missed a warp, which cost me about 7 seconds. I missed a white block in the second race, but hitting all the greens on the second lap made up for a lot of the lost time, so the race didn't go too badly. Third race went ideally. The last race didn't go well (replaced a green block with a blue one, had some bad RNG with people taking white blocks).

-- Sixth circuit --
My shield didn't trigger on the first lap so I almost missed the red block to open the shortcut. That would have been bad. Luckily I hit the UFO boost on the second lap. Second race was pretty bad in general. Third race didn't seem to go well, but I made some pretty good saves that ended up making up for lost time, and it only ended up being two seconds slower than this track in the third circuit. Third race could have gone better, but it wasn't terrible. I didn't miss any warps, but there were a lot of small mistakes.

-- Last circuit --
I don't even know. This race is just a free-for-all with warps, so if the beginning goes well, the rest of the race goes well. So this race wasn't bad. Also I lapped Rocket Racer, fuck yeah.
