How to do Measurement of Arterial Blood Pressure.

The systolic pressure recorded by auscultatory method is more accurate and is generally 10 to 15 mm Hg higher than that recorded by palpatory method. For diastolic pressure recording the auscultatory method is of course,the only available method.
1)The subject must be comfortable and relaxed. Contraction of the arm muscles will affect the result. 2) Cuff must neither be too loos nor too tight.
3) No tight clothing on the arm proximal to the armlet should be allowed.
4) The arm and the armlet must be at the level of the heart.
5) The reading or the manometer scale should be taken at the level of the observer's eyes.
6) The pressure in the cuff (armlet) should be brought down to zero in between any two successive readings otherwise the subsequent reading will be higher due to the effect of tissue hypoxia (resulted from obstruction to arterial and venous blood flow in the arm caused by increased pressure in the cuff.)
