Duck Hunting | South Texas | Wigeons, Pintails, Redheads

Duck Hunting in Deep South Texas for wigeons, pintails and redheads. In my opinion there are two duck seasons every year. What I call Teal winged ducks, and basically, big ducks. The teal wing season is very short and sometimes not even two weeks long and it’s up front on the calendar.

Those birds are like F16 fighters, they come in fast, they are small and very agile ducks. And they will challenge even the best marksmen. Big ducks come later in the year. Typically the first part of November. The reason the Teal Wings come first is based on their migration pattern. All the Teal Wing duck hunting I’ve done has been on inland lakes in South Texas. And big ducks are predominately on the Texas saltwater coasts.

There are many more species than one in the big duck world. There are redheads and there’s almost too many of them. Oftentimes we get our limit of redheads and that’s all we see sometimes. So we basically can’t shoot anymore until we see some pintails or wigeons or other species flying over or into our decoy spread. I prefer the Benelli Super Vinci 12 gauge shotgun. I believe it’s the worlds most reliable duck hunting shotgun and it’s the softest kicking, fastest shooting gun I’ve ever used.
