Barn conversion! Nettle Barn Ep1, underpinning foundations, roof off and garage transformation

Converting my historic stone barn into a tiny house, sustainable, permaculture based small holding.

This episode looks at how to do the underpinning foundations, I take the roof off and I show you how I've transformed the garage, cladding it with corrugated metal sheeting.

I'm a self builder, so I'm doing almost all the work myself. This is a lot of work, but as this is going to be my home it's a labour of love and I'm enjoying every stage.

Nettle barn is set in a beautiful valley on the edge of the peak district national park in Derbyshire, UK. It has a diverse and thriving natural habitat on which I aim to improve, designing and living with nature, not against it. It also happens to have a great small community of like minded people who aim to live in this sustainable way within the principles of permaculture.

Nettle barn was originally a cow shed, built some time between 1835 and 1849. It was later used as a small holding by the local butcher and for the last period of it's life had been used for horse stables and grazing.

Although building a house uses lots of new materials, this being a tiny house uses a much smaller quantity and when it comes down to the fittings and fixtures I aim to use as many recycled materials as possible. This will also give it a quality, unique finish which will never fall out of fashion and need re-doing with a whole load of new materials.

My channel will follow the journey of converting this barn, custom building the upcycled interior and will then go on to follow the inner workings of living on a sustainable small holding as I get chickens, bees, sheep, grow my own vegetables in the allotment etc.
I also do a lot of outdoor activities/extreme sports, so some random adventure edits make it into the mix as well.
