JANK were an American emo power-pop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 2015, from the ashes of duo Panucci’s Pizza. Comprised of singer, songwriter and guitarist Lou Diamond, bassist Ruben Polo and Sam Becht on drums, the band gained a small but dedicated following quickly, playing fun-filled pop music.
Their first release, ‘Awkward Pop Songs’ helped JANK to develop a cult following in the underground music scene in the United States and globally on emo forums online. After months of touring, in 2016, the band released a follow-up EP titled ‘Versace Summer’ through Creep Records.
The band came to a messy end, however, after allegations surfaced of Diamond committing sexually abusive acts to minors. Prior to these allegations, Ruben Polo had decided not to continue with the band, citing reasons he did not wish to discuss. Whilst Diamond and Becht did work on another project titled Fail Better, Heal Faster after JANK, following more sexual misconduct allegations about Diamond, Becht left the group, before going on to tour with Remo Drive and to pursue a side project in 2018.
Despite controversy surrounding members of the group, I feel it is important that this music should be heard, as, not only does it mean so much to me, but it does to so many others across the globe. I personally hope that people can continue to appreciate the art of this band for years to come.
