(09.2021) The Dervihes dance. Istanbul
Dervishes dance - each movement carries a deep sacred meaning within the framework of Sufism. The action begins with Rumi's verses to the glory of the Prophet Muhammad. Then dancers in snow-white wide skirts come out to the music - they cross their arms over their chest and begin to spin in one direction in a circle. During the ritual, the participants open their hands and direct their right hand upwards towards God, and their left downwards towards the ground. It symbolizes the reception and transmission of divine energy. It is important that the dancer's head should be exactly at an inclination of 25 degrees - this is an approximate tilt of the earth's axis. In fact, dance is considered difficult and takes many years to learn. Not every Sufi who has achieved mastery can be allowed to participate - first he will have to spend 1001 days within the walls of the monastery, proving the seriousness of his faith.
