Bihar's first 4 lane greenfield expressway | Infrastructure: Govt to spend Rs.111 lakh crore | Bharatmala | The Dawn
The Central Government is going to make big investments in infrastructure in the near future. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday that the government is giving top priority to infrastructure development. The government has set a target of spending Rs 15 lakh crore on road construction in the next two years.
Target to build 40 km highway every day
Nitin Gadkari expressed confidence that the Road Transport Ministry will achieve the target of constructing 40 km of highways every day in the current financial year. The Union Minister said that the Government has approved 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the road sector. He said that for the first time projects like National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) have been brought to India for 2019-2025. The Government is committed to provide world class infrastructure to the citizens of the country and to improve their lives.
7300 projects to be commissioned by 2025 under NIP
Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said about 7300 projects will be launched by 2025 under NIP. The cost of these projects will be Rs.111 lakh crore. He said the NIP aims to improve the preparations for the project and attract investment for infrastructure. The government wants to attract maximum investment in highways, railways, ports, airports, mobility, energy, agriculture and rural industry.
U.S. companies invited to invest
Soon there will be several major trade agreements between the two countries. The Union Minister also invited US companies to invest in India's infrastructure and MSME sector.
Bihar to have first 4 lane expressway at a cost of Rs 7200 crore
Bihar's first 4 lane greenfield expressway will be constructed from Aurangabad to Darbhanga via Patna. With its construction, Patna will be able to reach Patna from any part of the state in four hours. Land acquisition process is underway between Aurangabad and Patna to construct the expressway at a length of 205 km at a cost of about Rs 7200 crore. Construction is expected to begin by June 2021 and the work will be completed in about 30 months.
80 per cent new road
The road connecting North and South Bihar will connect Patna directly with Gaya and Darbhanga Airport. It will also be connected to GT Road. NHAI has been entrusted with the responsibility of constructing the road. According to sources, 80 per cent of the greenfield has been placed in the road constructed under the Bharatmala scheme. Greenfield means that this corridor will have 80 per cent new roads. In a meeting of the Land Acquisition Committee of NHAI recently, it was proposed to construct the road from Aurangabad to Jayanagar in a length of about 271 km. The committee has currently approved the road from Aurangabad to Darbhanga. It will then be extended from Darbhanga to Jayanagar in the next phase.
The road will pass through these routes
Starting from Madanpur in Aurangabad district, the forelane road will also provide connectivity to GT Road via gaya airport. From Gaya, it will come to Kachcha Dargah in Patna via the border of Jehanabad and Nalanda and from there the six lane bridge between Bidupur will go from Chaksikandar, East of Mahua to Tajpur to Kalyanpur, Samastipur. From there it will reach the East-West Corridor near Darbhanga Airport.

Bharatmala

Bharatmala Pariyojana is a centrally-sponsored and funded Road and Highways project of the Government of India. The total investment for 83,677 km committed new highways is estimated at ₹5.35 lakh crore (US$75 billion), making it the single largest outlay for a government road construction scheme. The project will build highways from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and then cover the entire string of Himalayan states - Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand - and then portions of borders of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar alongside Terai, and move to West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and right up to the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur and Mizoram. Special emphasis will be given on providing connectivity to far-flung border and rural areas including the tribal and backward areas. Bharatmala Project will interconnect 550 District Headquarters (from current 300) through a minimum 4-lane highway by raising the number of corridors to 50 (from current 6) and move 80% freight traffic (40% currently) to National Highways by interconnecting 24 logistics parks, 66 inter-corridors (IC) of total 8,000 km (5,000 mi), 116 feeder routes (FR) of total 7,500 km (4,700 mi) and 7 north east Multi-Modal waterway ports
