my 1989 Ford F350 7.3L IDI Diesel (part 2)

UPDATED 5/20/2023

This is my rare Custom Coach conversion F350 I bought to keep personally. It was in Mississippi until 2013 when it came to southern Ohio. I went down by Athens Ohio to get it. Looks great, runs & drives perfect in every way! Clean rust free straight body & good original paint with some clear coat issues, I had the hood painted March 2023 because it had three places on the surface that were about to rust. Good cold AC & good heat. The brakes and suspension are great & it handles better than most of the 2001-2006 Super Duty trucks I sell off my car lot! Interior is original & incredibly clean. No stains, no smells, never smoked in. Clean title. 121,718 actual miles as of 9/12/2020.

This is the IDI (indirect injection) 7.3L diesel with mechanical fuel pump & mechanical fuel injection. No computers anywhere I love how simple and inexpensive this is to work on compared to a powerstroke - Great bug-out truck! It has an aftermarket oil pressure gauge installed for some reason but the stock gauge works as well as all the other gauges. The truck also has a heavy duty steel rear window guard (headache rack) with integrated tail lights & signals, and stainless steel running boards. It was used in the past to tow a gooseneck trailer & still has the wiring in place for that too. This truck has never been driven in the snow and salt, and the underneath is clean. You shine a light up there & you can still see the factory paint. The bed rails, frame, lines, even the fuel tank straps are not rusty. Super clean even on the bumpers. Both fuel tanks work but the front tank fuel gauge only shows empty when I switch to it. The interior is a custom coach design with wood trim and upper indirect lighting like a conversion van. Plush comfortable seats that don’t even look old even though they’re the originals. Minimal fading on the driver’s seat only. And I love this- It has Longhorn insignia mud flaps & a hood ornament that looks like a cowboy’s arm holding up his hat while bull riding in a rodeo!

2016 Jan: New radius arm bushings & Class V Reese receiver
2016 June: New complete dual exhaust installed & R134a AC retrofit
2016 Sept: New front tires
2017 Mar: New complete clutch kit & clutch master cylinder installed
2017 Nov: New carrier bearing & u joints installed.
I put on a new digital trailer brake controller and towed my 35’ camper some.
2018 May: New power steering gearbox installed.
2019 Aug: New Kenwood bluetooth stereo & Kicker speakers installed by Best Buy.
New front & rear Monroe shocks installed.
2020 July: New lifetime warranty starter from Oreilly’s Auto parts installed.
2021: New front brakes/rotors. Rear brakes were new when I bought the truck.
Coolant flushed & anti cavitation EC-1 added. New belts.
2022 June: New bed liner installed after I had the bed treated/sealed
2023 Mar: Four new rear tires
2023 April: Eight new glow plugs and glow plug actuator, and new alternator

The only potential weakness in these old International 7.3L & the older 6.9L diesels were the possibility of cavitation damage. I was sure to cover this with the owner before I bought it for myself. The coolant was treated years ago but he drained the cooling system & flushed it in 2015 and had fresh anti-cavitation EC-1 used. I did the clutch because I thought the pedal felt hard & the clutch rattled sometimes. I'm still loving & obsessing about this truck.
