Jobs: Gender Neutral Job Names in English! Learn English Job Names! 仕事:英語での性別中立の仕事名!英語の仕事の名前を正しく学ぶ!

If you want to sound more polite and correct in English, then you shouldn’t use outdated names for jobs such as ‘stewardess’ or ‘fireman’. Instead, you need to use gender neutral names for jobs!

Gender refers to whether or not something is male or female, masculine or feminine. Neutral means that there is no bias either way. So in the case of gender neutral language in English, it is words that don’t specifically refer to a man or woman. In terms of jobs, many job titles in the past used to show whether it was a man or a woman doing the job, but nowadays those job names can be seen as rude and sexist. Therefore using gender neutral job names is important and more polite.

In today’s English lesson you will learn about more than 12 different jobs that used to be gendered, but that now have gender neutral job names.
