Western Maryland 1309 In The Narrows

Built in 1949 by the Baldwin locomotive works 1309 started its life on the C&O railroad. Serving the coal mines around Kentucky and West Virginia, the engine was not taken very well care of by the C&O and was retired in 1956. In the following years, the engine would be moved to the B&O Museum in Baltimore Maryland. The engine was left outside in all types of weather for about 50 years. Then in 2014, Western Maryland Scenic Railroad acquired the engine for a full restoration and in November of 2021, the engine was approved by the Federal Railroad Administration for use on the WMSR tracks.
