Super Heavy Ocean Splashdown

For Starship Flight Test 9, SpaceX targeted a splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico instead of returning the Super Heavy to the launch tower. The Mechazilla “chopsticks” at Starbase are designed to eventually catch the booster, but the system isn’t yet ready for operational catches. Until the hardware and procedures are fully validated, test flights end with the booster landing in the ocean. This video shows the Super Heavy floating briefly before sinking beneath the waves.
