Open Water Video

This is an open water propeller test. We are using an exact scale replica of an FFG 7 propeller (hence the $50k price tag), which when coupled to the ship model can give us SHP and maneuvering characteristics. But before you can do that you must determine propeller efficiency unhindered by a ship hull. This is done by attaching the propeller to the front of a dynamometer and towing the propeller at different speeds. The propeller rotations per second (rps) are held constant at a high rate to get the highest Reynolds number for the incoming water. This will minimize drag and maximize lift to the foil (blade)
