National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Andre Douglas, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Luca Parmitano, and NASA astronauts Randy Bresnik and Frank Rubio take a photo together on June 9, 2026. The four were announced as the Artemis III crew.

Scheduled for 2027, NASA’s Artemis III mission in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) will test integrated operations between the Orion spacecraft and one or both commercial landers from SpaceX and Blue Origin respectively.

We Go Together - In 2027, the Artemis III mission will practice docking the Orion spacecraft with two lunar landers in low Earth orbit. On future Artemis missions, landers will bring astronauts to the lunar surface. While Artemis III will not land on the Moon, it will test the complex capabilities we need to return humanity there — this time to stay.

Lunar Exploration - The Moon is a 4.5-billion-year-old time capsule. We’re going back to the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and inspiration for a new generation of explorers. While maintaining American leadership in exploration, we will build a global alliance and explore deep space for the benefit of all.
