PHIL ROBERTSON - A MAN OF GOD - April 24, 1946 to May 25, 2025,

Phil Robertson was an American professional hunter, businessman, and reality television star, best known as the patriarch of the Robertson family on the A&E series "Duck Dynasty." Born on April 24, 1946, in Vivian, Louisiana, he grew up in a large, poor family of seven children, living in a log cabin without electricity, running water, or a bathtub. They sustained themselves through hunting, fishing, and gardening. A talented athlete, Robertson earned All-State honors in football, baseball, and track, securing a football scholarship to Louisiana Tech University, where he played as the starting quarterback ahead of future NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw in 1966 and 1967. He chose not to pursue a professional football career, prioritizing hunting over football.

In 1972, Robertson invented the "Duck Commander" duck call, a more effective design for duck hunters, and founded the Duck Commander company in 1973. Initially run from the family home in West Monroe, Louisiana, the business grew into a multimillion-dollar enterprise, selling duck calls and other hunting gear. His passion for the outdoors, rooted in his childhood, shaped his career. He turned his life around in the mid-1970s after a period of heavy drinking and personal struggles, embracing Christianity and making significant lifestyle changes.
"Duck Dynasty," which aired from 2012 to 2017, showcased the Robertson family and their business, becoming one of cable TV’s biggest hits, with the Season 4 premiere drawing 11.8 million viewers. Robertson’s outspoken Christian faith and conservative views occasionally sparked controversy, notably in 2013 when A&E briefly suspended him from the show after comments about homosexuality in a GQ interview, prompting a strong backlash from supporters that led to his reinstatement after nine days. He authored several books, including the New York Times bestseller "Happy, Happy, Happy" (2013), and co-hosted the podcast "Unashamed with Phil & Jase Robertson."

Robertson married Marsha "Miss Kay" Carroway in 1966, and they had four sons—Alan, Jase, Willie, and Jep—along with a daughter, Phyllis, from an affair in the 1970s, whom he learned about in 2020. The couple had 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In December 2024, it was revealed he had been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease and was also battling a worsening blood disorder, causing significant pain and memory issues. Phil Robertson passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 79, as announced by his family. A private funeral was held, with plans for a public celebration of his life. His legacy endures through Duck Commander, "Duck Dynasty," and his influence on hunting and conservative Christian values in American culture.
