Kilnhurst DAA South Yorkshire Navigation Canal Match Fishing Practice Session

This week we head to the South Yorkshire Navigation on the old Croda Length controlled by Kilnhurst DAA close to Mexborough and Swinton to have a canal match fishing practice session.

August the 15th will see the Yorkshire Bandit Angling Club take on KDAA on their home water in an inter club match with 11 anglers representing each club.

Weather in the preceding days had been touching 30oC and with a slightly cooler day forecast I was hopeful we'd get stuck into some of the resident roach we had caught on my only other visit to the South Yorkshire Navigation in the winter of 2019.

Unfortunately the weather had other ideas and temperatures soared again into the high twenties. On a canal that was deep, clear and void of any boat traffic I knew we were in for a tough session. Watch the video to see how I go about getting to understand the best approach to the swim and my thoughts on how to improve on match day.

I'll upload the match footage as a follow up to this and will take you through the changes I make to the approach including my pole rigs for canal fishing by applying the lessons learnt in practice and information obtained from other club members who fished the canal on different days and in more favourable conditions.
