In this video essay, we take a look at the problem with some movies today. We also analyze the root causes that lead to films not taking themselves seriously.

There are many other examples which I could not include in this video. Some are like the opening scene of The Last Jedi, Larry's embarrassing moment in Jurassic World, the Dying Gull going to sea in Dead Men Tell No Tales, the naming of skullcrawlers in Kong: Skull Island, and many more.

There is another excellent video about the same thing but focused on Marvel movies. It's called What Writers Can Learn From Wonder Woman by Just Write. It includes more specific examples and explains the thinking behind it better than I ever could. This video goes over movies in general, whereas that one by Just Write seems more focused on just Marvel. I highly recommend checking it out to learn more about the problems with movies using too much humor today.
