Kendall Recreation Area Campground Review, Jamestown, Kentucky - an Army Corps of Engineers Park
Kendall Recreation Area: Another Ruff Road Campground Review located near Jamestown, Kentucky. Kendall Recreation Area is an Army Corps of Engineers Park, part of Cumberland Lake and provides a perfect view of the thundering waters pouring out of Wolf Creek Dam.
Another dam campground review! Yup. We do love our Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds! Kendall Recreation Area is located near Jamestown, Kentucky. It borders the shores of the Cumberland River which flows through the Wolf Creek Dam from Cumberland Lake. Here you can enjoy a large recreational area while camping at one of the 118 campsites.
What we love about Kendall Recreation Area:
1. Beautiful area - The crashing dam, the rushing river, the glistening lake, the open green space, the cascading creek, the colorful trees in October, the deer, the wooded trails, the ducks...
2. Large, ample campsites - The campsites provide ample space between you and your neighbor. Sites are angled maximizing privacy in most cases. Some sites are completely secluded, some sites are more open but still provide outdoor living space. Several sites overlook the Cumberland River. Each site has 30/50 electric and water.
3. Trails - There are a few trails in the campground. They are short, one mile or less, but combined together with the scenic and winding park roads you can get a few miles in.
4. The Hatchery - You can visit the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery that supplies all of the stocked trout for the state of Kentucky. Walk along the raceways and view the trout in various stages. We saw trout being moved and trout being dumped into a raceway though a tube. You can even feed the trout for $1.00!
5. Hatchery Creek - This creek flows right from the hatchery and provides fisher folk of all ages to try their hand at landing a trout. The creek is also home to many waterfowl. We watched mallard ducks while walking along its shores.
6. Captain Jake's Snack Shack - Hungry? This walk-up concession has ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes, breakfast food, lunch, drinks - all for a reasonable price. They sell ice and wood and rent bikes here. Good food, nice folks!
7. Verizon service works great!
8. Friendly hosts
9. Clean. Spotless.
What we didn't love about Kendall Recreation Area:
1. No sewer hook ups, but really that was all that we could come up with. No real negatives here.
Check out Kendall Recreation Area if you are traveling near Jamestown, Kentucky. It's easy to get to and worth a stop for a few days.
Next stop: Seven Points Park near Hermitage, Tennessee
