Green Chicken Home Cooking in HuaPing, China - Yunnan Chinese Welcome Feast

bus ride to visit our old friend LiXu in his hometown, HuaPing, a countryside town in the amazing province of Yunnan, China.

See a Yunnan family's garden, drink home-made alcohol, snack on home-pickled chili peppers, and eat the wonderful meal of locally sourced ingredients prepared by our friend's mother. The whole meal is amazing, including one of their own chickens, a 'green chicken,' which means that they've raised it with natural feed, taken care of it for eggs, and then honor us with its life by preparing it for us for dinner on this welcome occasion.

Their own mangoes, their own chilies, and their own blends of spicy dipping sauces, nothing could be closer to my heart :-D .

I am absolutely blown away by how self-sustaining families are in this part of the world, growing so many (and raising so much) of the things you see us eating in this video... I also have to give it up totally to LiXu's mother, waking up early to work in the garden, taking care of us for breakfast and lunch, then going out again to tend to the animals before preparing our dinner. Incredible, and such an example of a dedicated hard-worker even in quite a modern day Chinese culture (the town is 'small' to Chinese, but its still 5 TIMES larger than the provincial capital where we and LiXu first met in Thailand!).

During a wonderful 2-week trip to Yunnan, my friend Li and I visit a few of the major towns, and a few of the 'small' villages. At least one video from each location, and all of them are in a series you can watch on this channel.
