봄(1악장) Spring mov.1
"봄이 왔다. 작은 새들은 즐거운 노래를 부르며 봄에게 인사한다.
시냇물은 산들바람과 상냥하게 얘기하며 흘러간다.
그러다 하늘이 어두워지고 천둥이 치고 번개가 번쩍인다.
폭풍우가 지나간 뒤, 작은 새들은 다시 아름다운 노래를 즐겁게 부른다"

"Springtime is upon us.
The birds celebrate her return with festive song,
and murmuring streams are
softly caressed by the breezes.
Thunderstorms, those heralds of Spring, roar,
casting their dark mantle over heaven,
Then they die away to silence,
and the birds take up their charming songs once more."

봄(2악장) Spring mov.2
"꽃들이 만발한 아름다운 목장에서 나뭇잎들이 달콤하게 속삭이고,
양치기는 충실한 개를 곁에 둔 채 깊은 잠에 빠졌다"

“요정들과 양치기들은 눈부시게 빛나는 봄에,
양치기가 부는 피리의 활기찬 음률에 맞춰 즐겁게 춤춘다.”

Led by the festive sound of rustic bagpipes,
nymphs and shepherds lightly dance
beneath the brilliant canopy of spring.

여름 (1악장) Summer mov.1
“태양이 강하게 내리쬐는 계절,
사람과 가축의 무리가 활기를 잃고 나무와 풀들도 더위에 지쳤다.
뻐꾸기가 지저귀고 산비둘기와 검은 방울새가 노래한다.
어디선가 산들바람이 기분 좋게 불어온다.
그러다 갑자기 북풍이 산들바람을 덮치고,
양치기는 비를 두려워하며 불운을 한탄하고 눈물을 흘린다."

"Under a hard season, fired up by the sun
Languishes man, languishes the flock and burns the pine
We hear the cuckoo's voice;
then sweet songs of the turtledove and finch are heard.
Soft breezes stir the air, but threatening
the North Wind sweeps them suddenly aside.
The shepherd trembles,
fearing violent storms and his fate."

“번개, 격렬한 천둥소리, 그리고 파리떼. 달려드는 파리떼의 공격으로
양치기는 피로한 몸을 쉴 수가 없다.”

"The fear of lightning and fierce thunder
Robs his tired limbs of rest
As gnats and flies buzz furiously around."

여름(3악장) Summer mov.3
“아아, 양치기의 두려움은 얼마나 옳았던가.
하늘은 천둥을 울리고 번개를 치고 우박을 내리게 하여 익은 곡식들을 떨어트린다.”

"Alas, his fears were justified
The Heavens thunder and roar and with hail
Cut the head off the wheat and damages the grain."

“마을 사람들은 춤과 노래로 수확의 즐거움을 기뻐하고 축하한다.
바커스의 술 덕택에 사람들은 흥겨움에 빠진다. 그러다 모두 잠든다.”

And fired up by Bacchus' liquor,
many end their revelry in sleep."

“모두 춤을 멈추고 노래도 끝났다.
조용한 공기가 평화롭다.
달콤한 잠이 사람들을 휴식으로 이끈다.”

“새벽이 되자 사냥꾼들은 피리와 총을 들고, 개를 데리고 사냥을 떠난다.
짐승들은 무서워하면서 달아나고 그들은 쫓는다. 4
총소리와 개 짖는 소리에 쫓긴 짐승들은 상처를 입고 떨고 있다.
도망칠 힘마저 다 떨어진 채 궁지에 몰려서 죽는다.”

"The hunters emerge at the new dawn,
And with horns and dogs and guns depart upon their hunting
The beast flees and they follow its trail;
Terrified and tired of the great noise
Of guns and dogs, the beast, wounded, threatens
Languidly to flee, but harried, dies."

겨울 (1악장) Winter mov.1
“차가운 눈 속에서 벌벌 떨며, 휘몰아치는 바람을 맞으며
쉴 새 없이 달리지만 제자리걸음일 뿐. 너무 추워서 이가 덜덜 떨린다.”

"To tremble from cold in the icy snow,
In the harsh breath of a horrid wind;
To run, stamping one's feet every moment,
Our teeth chattering in the extreme cold"

“불 곁에서 조용하고 만족스러운 나날을 보낸다. 집 밖에서는 비가 만물을 적신다.”

“얼음 위를 걷는다. 넘어지지 않으려고 천천히 발을 내딛는다.
하지만 다급하게 걷다가 미끄러져 넘어진다. 다시 일어나서, 얼음이 깨질 정도로 힘차게 달린다.
문 밖으로 나가 남풍과 북풍, 모든 바람들의 싸움에 귀 기울인다. 이것이 겨울이다.
이렇게 해서 겨울은 기쁨을 가져다준다.”
"We tread the icy path slowly and cautiously,
for fear of tripping and falling.
Then turn abruptly, slip, crash on the ground and,
rising, hasten on across the ice lest it cracks up.
We feel the chill north winds course through the home
despite the locked and bolted doors...
this is winter, which nonetheless
brings its own delights."
