Coronavirus: Ontario premier announces funding for community and youth-led organizations | FULL

Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Thursday announced a more than $13-million investment in community and youth-led organizations that are helping to provide opportunities for Ontario’s youth.

Ford made the announcement during Thursday’s daily briefing on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, alongside Health Minister Christine Elliott and Associate Minister of Children and Women's Issues Jill Dunlop.

The premier also defended Ontario’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis in the province’s long-term care homes after a report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) found Canada’s long-term care homes, of all the OECD countries, were the hardest hit by the novel coronavirus.

The report found that 81 per cent of all COVID-19 deaths in Canada occurred in long-term care homes, in comparison to an average of 42 per cent in other OECD countries.

As of Thursday, there have been 1,803 deaths reported among residents and patients in long-term care homes across Ontario.
