September 3, 1971. That's the date when Qatar gained its independence. With just a few days away from the important day, here's a short crash course in the history of Qatar and how Qatar got its independence. Although it's no longer an official holiday, many people still commemorate it.

Qatar National Day (Founder's Day) was previously celebrated during September 3 before it was moved to December 18, in commemoration of the country's unification in 1878.
