Close Encounters with Humpback Mothers and Calves at Silver Bank

This video was taken in March 2023 on an expedition with Cheesemans' Ecology Safaris, with guides from Aquatic Adventures. Located 90 miles off the coast of the Dominican Republic in the Atlantic Ocean, Silver Bank is a shallow underwater carbonate platform that almost reaches the ocean's surface in certain areas (60 feet deep in the shallow parts), but is mostly submerged. It has long been a breeding and calving area for humpback whales. The calves were around 6 weeks of age.
