Eurasian Nuthatch - Sitta europaea

Eurasian Nutchatch looking for food, he walks on tree trunks or rocks, often head down (he can do it as one of the few birds, and among European birds - as the only one).

The nuthatch moves differently than woodpeckers and creepers, which, when walking on the trunk, support their tail like a third limb. Moving on the tree bark, the blacksmith grips the claws of its strong fingers on the bumps. Makes free movements on fairly smooth, moist trunks of beech. Perfectly climbs (like woodpeckers), walks even on the underside of the branch. However, like woodpeckers, with its powerful chisel beak, the nuthatch pulls its prey out of the crevices in the bark. The skull of this bird is not adapted to forging in wood, so it cannot forge a hollow itself. Maybe at most with a few well-punched blows, force the seed into the crack in the bark (at least like a great woodpecker). It is a way of keeping inventory in the event of poorer food supply. Such behavior is observed at feeders in the winter. Regularly, at very short intervals, it carries one grain in its beak and hides it nearby. They show high mobility and agility, while being careful. It is not a very sociable bird.
