2008: Alanis Morissette Interview

An interview with Alanis Morissette is similar to psychotherapy, in the best sense: direct questions receive direct answers, unadorned, gently but firmly. In conversation with longtime Toronto Radio personality Maie Pauts at Canadian Music Week’s 2008 Conference spotlight, Alanis was charming and disarming in her honesty.

Alanis received the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award for her artistry and works, and here on stage with Maie, she discussed her career, then-upcoming album Flavours Of Entanglement, and her (still) upcoming book. They also talked about the “micro and macro of songwriting”, and how songwriting has helped define who Alanis is, but doesn’t define everything that she is. Fascinating subject, compelling interview.

Alanis Morissette is an international superstar, with sixteen JUNO Awards and seven Grammy Awards, and records that have all gone Gold and Multi-Platinum. Recording her first demo at the age of eleven, she later appeared on children’s television, and even recorded generic dance-pop, but her iconic 1995 album Jagged Little Pill made her a star, with 5 charting singles, topping record charts around the world. She has since gone on to sell more than 60 million albums worldwide.

2014 HD multi-camera edit, assembled from 2008 tracks and SD clips.
