Eternals Actors Who Almost Turned Down Their Role

Marvel has never failed to give their films star-studded casts that will please audiences members from all demographics. Eternals is no different and features some of the biggest names in the MCU yet, like Oscar-Winner Angelina Jolie as Thena as well as Salma Hayek as Ajak, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman. The film's director, Academy Award Winner Chloe Zhao and the film’s producer Nate Morris wanted to make sure that they cast actors and actresses who could bring some of their own personality to their respective roles. They didn’t set out to build an A-list ensemble, it just happened to be that way. Actors like Don Lee and Nanjiani were the creative team’s only choices for the role while arguably the film’s lead Gemma Chan got the role of Sersi at the last minute after previously starring as Minn-Erva in another MCU movie: Captain Marvel. Eternals follows the titular race of beings who have been on Earth for thousands of years and have helped build civilizations and impacted cultures around the world. Though the heroes have since been in hiding and swore an oath to never interfere, even when Thanos snapped away half of the universe. But when a new threat arises, the Eternals have to forgo their sacred oath and save humanity from an evil and powerful force. Eternals is one of the most ambitious films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date and it’s one that will leave a large impact on the franchise moving forward.
