The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (106th Constitutional Amendment Act 2023) promised 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. But it can only be implemented after delimitation based on the next census, as per Article 334A. The government tried to fast-track it by increasing Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 850 and using 2011 census data yet the bill fell short by 54 votes.
