Too Cool For School (Fountains of Wayne) - J. Henry "Jim" Harrison, Vocals

Some bands rise like a mushroom cloud - only to smolder within a handful of albums and half a dozen years.

Fountains of Wayne are bassist Adam Schlesinger, guitarist Chris Collingwood,  guitarist Jody Porter and drummer Brian Young. Formed in 1995 in New York City, it put out five studio albums and toured extensively during its 16-year career.

Although widely known for the hit, "Stacy's Mom," the band offered an array of emotions in its lyrics, along with great harmonies and catchy melodies. (Schlesinger had previously penned, "That Thing You Do," which was nominated for an Oscar - along with the movie of the same name.)

I highly urge you to listen to these five outstanding recordings and to check out Fountains of Wayne's many live performances on YouTube. After recording my vocal rendition of "Too Cool for School" (used in the movie, "Scary Movie") I'm definitely revisiting its catalog.
