Whatever Happened To Baby Jane - I've written a letter to Daddy - (Live cover version)

Girl From Winter Jargon sings Baby Jane song, "I've written a letter to daddy" from the 1962 film "Whatever happened to Baby Jane?"

Whatever Happened To Baby Jane - I've Written A Letter To Daddy - Lyrics

I've written a letter to daddy.
His address is heaven above.
I've written, "Dear Daddy, we'll miss you and wish you were with you to love"
Instead of a stamp, I put kisses.
The postman says, that's best to do.
I've written a letter to daddy saying, "I love you"
Just for a bit of fun, thought I would attempt to sync the original footage with my cover of "I've written a letter to daddy" so effectively, it's Bette Davis miming! :D. It was never going to go seamlessly as both versions are at completely different speed as well as time signatures! Here's hoping I don't get shot down by anyone who feels I may have butchered a classic.

What the chuff is, "I've written a letter to daddy ?"
I've written a letter to daddy, is a song performed by Baby Jane Hudson.

Who the chuff is Baby Jane Hudson?

Funnily enough, that's what everyone else wants to know, since no one remembers her. Baby Jane Hudson is a fictitious character played by Bette Davis from the 1962 film, "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" In the film, Jane Hudson was a reasonably successful child star, hence the "baby" part. She performed songs to audiences accompanied by her daddy on piano (Including, "I've written a letter to daddy") and everyone in the film seems to think she is adorable, although from where I'm sitting she looks like a fairly creepy blonde child who would probably be better suited to a modern day horror film. Worse still, Baby Jane Hudson's daddy has all these super creepy "Baby Jane Hudson" dolls which he is attempting to flog as merchandise. These dolls are very much the stuff of nightmares, and once again, would also be fairly well suited to a modern day horror film. Bette Davis stars with Joan Crawford who plays Baby Jane Hudson's sister, Blanche Hudson. Throughout their entire lives, Baby Jane Hudson and Blanche Hudson have this complicated sisterly obligation type relationship where they love each other on some level but are also extremely jealous and competitive and resentful of eachother. These are escalated feelings which stem from their childhood and upbringing.

Moving on though... 'Whatever happened to Baby Jane?' is very good. If you've never seen it, you should go out and watch it right this second!

Obviously it goes without saying that older films like this are made of entirely different stuff and are set at an entirely different pace to modern day films, but they also contain certain qualities that are almost utterly lost in today's film industry.

I first watched 'Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" when I was about 13 or 14. I was off school, poorly at the time with some sort of bug, on the settee with a duvet in the living room, watching telly with my mam. Then sometime past midnight, "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" came on and it was one of those things where neither of us were really intending to watch a film, but we were both drawn into it within the first few minutes. The film finished in the early hours of the morning and my mam stayed up and watched it with me till the very end. After the film ended I was left still thinking about it for days afterwards. I'd never really seen anything like it before. Watching it now, there are parts of 'Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?' which are humorous but aren't supposed to be, but on a whole, I think the shocking aspects of it remain powerful.
