It was his birthday. He spent it clearing a house full of enemies. Alone. 🇺🇸

On November 10, 2004, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia of the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division was fighting house to house in Fallujah, Iraq, when a squad from his platoon became trapped inside a building by intense enemy f*re. Without hesitation, Bellavia grabbed an automatic weapon, charged into the doorway, and laid down covering f*re until every one of his men escaped. Then he went back in. Alone. Room by room, in total darkness, he hunted down insurgent after insurgent. In one room packed with propane tanks and plastic explosives, he couldn't risk f*ring a single sh*t. So he put down his weapon and used a kn*fe. He cleared the entire house, k*lling four insurgents and wounding a fifth. He was 29 years old. It was his birthday. In 2019, President Donald Trump awarded David Bellavia the Medal of Honor, making him the first living Iraq War veteran ever to receive it. He earned it the only way he knew how by refusing to leave his brothers behind.
