October 22nd mallard hunt wheat field

Quick little afternoon hunt as I played hookey from work. Couldn't get permission on the field I wanted to hunt, but this was close, and got enough birds to have a good shoot. Took two very timid drakes that were very close, so I head shot them both. Picked them up and brought them back to layout blind, dropped them, then one got up and flew away.....for about 2 seconds and I shot it for the second time. Weird. Never moved or had any signs of life as I brought it back to the blind. Got a triple on the next bunch, and on the last , I only got one, as my gun got caught up on my back brace and went out of battery and the butt slipped down towards my bicep when I pulled the trigger the 2nd and 3rd time. Ouch. Still have the bruise (warfarin does that ). A fun hunt but I needed the better field to make it easier.
