Prince Rama Varma - Swara Raja Raja Award at Rajamahendravaram

Prince Rama Varma gets overwhelmed by the love and regard shown by the members of the Sri Thyagaraja Narayanadasa Seva Samithi, Rajamahendravaram, who conferred the title "Swara Raja Raja" on Varma ji on the 3rd of May,, 2019, "for his relentless deeds in expounding, interpreting and demystifying South Indian Classical Music for the generations now and hereafter."
Normally Varma ji does not even encourage students to touch his feet and usually moves a few step backwards when people try to do so. But this was something far beyond his imagination!
While he was touched by the gesture, he remained true to his usual, simple, fun loving self and joked to me that because the turban on his head was a bit tight, his eyebrows raised automatically and he was reminded of the yesteryear actress Nadira singing Mud Mudke Na Dekh, Mud Mudke!
The moment his part of the ceremony was done, he chucked off all the flowers and garlands, jumped down into the audience and took photos of both Sri Vinu and Sri Harikumar being honoured!
As a long time admirer of Varma ji, I felt extremely happy to see him get this kind of recognition in another state (Andhra Pradesh) which has lovingly adopted him as one of their own, just like the love Varma ji has been lavishing on rare and precious Telugu songs for quite some time now.
