A lawmaker is pushing to institutionalize a measure that will protect teachers and school personnel in cases related to student discipline and classroom management.

House Bill 5735, to be known as the Student Discipline and Teacher Protection Act, requires the Department of Education (DepEd) to issue policies and principles on student discipline and classroom management.

Teachers should be protected from certain harms. Teachers have the right to be free from discrimination based on race, sex, and national origin -- as well as freedom of expression, academics, privacy, and religion.
