The French Revolution was a brutal and turbulent time, and following the execution of King Louis XVI a period known as 'The Reign Of Terror' emerged. During this around 17,000 people were condemned on the guillotine after being suspected of being in support of the monarchy, and the man behind The Terror was Maximilien Robespierre. Robespierre was a prominent politician, but as he began to accumulate more power, he became very unpopular.

Many saw Robespierre as a tyrant responsible for the mass executions, and he would be arrested and he was then condemned to death. On the very same guillotine that the King and Queen Marie Antoinette were executed upon, Robespierre also was executed in front of a huge crowd in Paris.
