A Day at TechNet Scotland | How Labs Actually Get Greener

A full day of conversations about sustainable labs, captured in one vlog.

TechNet Scotland brought lab technicians from across Scotland together at McEwan Hall, University of Edinburgh. We were invited to open the day with a talk applying Simon Sinek's Golden Circle to the sector, making the case that the "why" of sustainable science has been won and the work now sits firmly in the "how."

What followed across the day proved the point. The University of Edinburgh shared its newly published regenerative sustainability strategy, pushing the conversation beyond net zero and into net negative. Martin Farley's talk on UKRI's SPARK Hub showed how sustainability tools are extending well beyond wet labs. And throughout, the same signal kept emerging from the room: nobody needed convincing. The case for sustainable science has been made. What people are asking for now is the time, the resource and the mandate to act on it.

This vlog takes you through the whole day. The trip up, the pre-event, clips from Ben's talk, the speakers who followed, the conversations between sessions, and the takeaways that will shape how Sustainable Steps operates from here.

If you weren't at TechNet, this is the next best thing.
