Russia’s Pantsir-S1 and America’s IM-SHORAD on Stryker represent two very different approaches to mobile short-range air defense.
Pantsir combines twin 30 mm autocannons and 12 ready-to-fire SAMs on an 8×8 truck, with a range of up to 20 mi (32 km) and altitude coverage up to 49,000 ft (15 km).
The U.S. IM-SHORAD brings a 30 mm XM914 autocannon and 4 Stinger missiles on the versatile Stryker 8×8, covering 3–5 mi (5–8 km) and low-altitude threats up to 10,000 ft (3 km).
