4F27E in Failsafe with P0705 or P1702? It Might Not Be the Range Sensor

If your 4F27E transmission is stuck in failsafe mode and showing codes P0705 or P1702, the first instinct might be to blame the range sensor, especially if the scanner shows incorrect gear position (e.g., shifter in 2nd, scanner reads 3rd).

But in this video, I explain why you shouldn't stop there.

These codes can also be set due to an open ground in the tail light circuit, which shares a common ground path with the range sensor signal. That loss of ground can cause false position readings and send the transmission into limp mode.

Before replacing the range sensor, grab your wiring diagram and verify your grounds, this is one of those weird electrical gremlins that’s easy to miss but simple to fix once found.
