The Net Zero series: Sustainable Buildings
How will climate change shape the homes, offices and public buildings of the future, and what role can our buildings play in reaching net zero? Experts discuss the step changes we'll need in constructing, maintaining and powering our buildings, and the tech that can help us get there.
00:00:00: Welcome & Intro to chair – Chris Coonick, Innovation Lead, Transforming Construction, Innovate UK
00:04:40: Introduction and scene setting - Chair - Yewande Akinola MBE, Innovate UK Ambassador for Clean Growth & Infrastructure
Speakers:
00:11:37 - Peter Goring, Technical Lead, Mace Tech
00:21:47 - Stuart Norman, Managing Director, Keltbray Piling. The HIPER Pile delivers the same shaft-bearing capacity with fewer or narrower piles, whilst providing the opportunity to integrate renewable technologies, making it a multi-functional part of smart buildings.
00:32:11 - Ian Naylor, lead of design research, Department for Education. In a pioneering move, DfE has partnered with construction innovators to collectively invest £4m in GenZero - a project to create new, improved design standards for school buildings.
00:42: 54- Ron Cowley, CEO, Active Building Centre. Active Buildings integrate the needs for power, heat and transport into a single intelligent system.
00:48:44 - Ian Hutchcroft, Director, Energiesprong UK. The UK needs to retrofit 26 million homes by 2050 to hit net zero targets. Energiesprong’s ‘whole house’retrofit model creates a net zero energy home in one step using new technology.
1:01:40- Vincent Clancy, CEO, Turner and Townsend (In November 2020, the government published its 10-point plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, setting out a path to Net Zero by 2050. CO2nstructZero is the construction sector’s response, led by the Construction Leadership Council.)
