Rare tour in North Korea - April 2025

🇰🇵 If you ever come to North Korea as a visitor, there is one requirement to show your respect to their beliefs and the way they do things. In Pyongyang (the capital city), this includes bowing down to the statues of President Kim Il Sung and Supreme Leader Kim Jong Il.

There are a few rules:
🌺 Flowers are optional
🙇‍♀️ The bow is mandatory. North Koreans have to do a full body bow and foreigners can just do a head bow.
❌ No mocking of the leaders is allowed here.
❌ No imitating of their postures when taking a picture.
❌ No cropping of the statues or portraits of the leaders in pictures. Always get the full statues in the picture.
🇰🇵 It's advisable to address the leaders in the same way as the locals do: "President Kim Il Sung" instead of Kim Il Sung. Otherwise they'll just correct you.

AND ANOTHER IMPORTANT RULE I'D ADD:
✅ Leave politics and your political opinions in the outside world. Be a guest. It's pointless to challenge the beliefs of the locals - you'll most certainly frustrate your guides and they won't like you, or you can even get them in trouble. Not everyone can do that. So if you're too opinionated to a point when you must be that one person in the group who misbehaves: don't come here and stick to watching documentaries. You'll have a much better experience if you focus on just being a traveller and a curious and respectful guest.

Be a guest and you will be treated as a guest.
