Cobalt boat Detailing TIP by a Jerk. Foam pads, Compounds, Oxidation OH My! (not a how-to) DON'T TRY
Foam pads and compound make for a deadly accurate combo to dial in gelcoat around snaps, vents and ports.
The top was a foam pad with Perfect-it ex ac followed by Flagship by Meguiar's.
Use protective gear. This stuff does not promote a healthy lifestyle!
— My tool list · updated June 2026 —
Anyone can hit a rock with the "right" tools; getting the rock to look like
something that belongs in museums and books... Takes a love of hitting rocks
with a purpose and not just the right tools/products. Technique is more
important than the "newest" product on the scene.
Still — people ask what I use. The list changes and things get discontinued,
so rather than edit 400+ old videos I keep one current version on my site:
https://tsillanbdg.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=toolkit#bench
I receive no payment for any of it. I keep the list because you ask, and it
saves us both some time.
— Safety first —
Compounds, sanding dust, and fumes are no joke. Wear protective gear — gloves,
eye protection, a respirator when compounding or sanding — and work ventilated.
Look after your lungs.
I've got 400+ before-and-after detailing videos on this channel — waxing,
buffing, the lot. Got a question? Drop it in the comments; I read and reply.
I don't take money from manufacturers or suppliers; I recommend what I actually
use. If you'd like to support what I do: https://www.paypal.me/DDLee
Thanks for your time, and for watching. — Lee
— T'sillan BDG —
After all these years and all these videos, I finally made the gelcoat sealant
I always wished I had. T'sillan BDG — a bonding lotion for gelcoat, made by
hand, one bottle at a time. It seals, it protects, and spiders hate it. It's
what I use now:

— About Fire Glaze —
I mention Fire Glaze (RMP) in this video, and I still rate it — it works.
Get it here: https://www.restructuremarine.com/fireglaze-products-2
For a demo of how I apply it: https://youtu.be/abZP7yBC5LE
These days I reach for my own T'sillan BDG instead (the one I mentioned just
above) — but Fire Glaze will still do right by your boat. Use whichever:
