Patrick Willie Hoop Dance Creative
Here it is! I made this as a fun project for Native American Heritage Month. I compiled a lot of unique creative hoop dance moves people don't typically see, all inspired by hoop dancers I look up to. I hope that this video can help inspire other hoop dancers creatively. The hoop dance is a dance that shares a story and the story I'm relaying here is to use your imagination. I keep an ever-growing list of ideas in my phone. It's amazing, a new hoop move usually hits me every few days. I then get that burst of excitement and have to try the move that crossed my mind. I'm sure you all can relate, that feeling of excitement of experiencing something that brings you pure bliss, it could be in the form of your favorite song/movie/book/food/art or even life itself. Be creative and most importantly have fun doing so. Think outside the box, or in this case, think outside the "hoop".
Each of the places I recorded making this video all have a story of their own. I was interrupted by police when recording one time but was left alone when they recognized me from another time I danced downtown, another time a school was having recess and a teacher came to ask me to do an impromptu performance so I did, another time I danced for the people at the park, I hiked 5 hours up provo canyon to dance with a nice view, I packed everything in my backpack and biked 2 hours to the lake and danced for the people fishing. When I danced at the capitol (day after the election) there were protesters (seen in the background) with whom I had a wonderful conversation about unity. There's so much more that went on behind the scenes that added meaning to my dance and the many messages it has to share.
Feel free to share if you'd like. I'm from Utah.
