How Equatorial Mounts follow the stars, for Beginners
In this video I explain in simple terms how an equatorial mount is useful for astronomy. I show how it works at different latitudes, and how to position it when you take it outside for a night of observing the stars. I've used a Skywatcher StarQuest telescope for the demonstration, along with a more sophisticated HEQ5 pro mount. Equatorial mounts can appear cumbersome and angular, so I've tried to explain their form.
