Roseburg firefighters “fill the boot” to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Association

Fire fighters in Roseburg will be out in the community Friday raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of the annual Fill the Boot drive, a fundraising tradition that dates back more than seven decades.

Dedicated fire fighters from Roseburg Fire Department Local 1110 and Central Douglas Fire and Rescue Local 2091 will collect donations Friday, June 5, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in downtown Roseburg at the intersection of Southeast Washington and Southeast Stephens Street. Fire fighters will be asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and other passersby to donate to MDA.

The International Association of Fire Fighters has collected funds through the Fill the Boot program since 1954, raising money “one dollar at a time” to support MDA’s work funding research, care and advocacy for people living with neuromuscular disease.

The partnership between MDA and the IAFF began in 1954, when the IAFF adopted MDA as its charity of choice. Over the past seven decades, fire fighters have raised more than $721 million for MDA, helping fund more than $1.1 billion in research. Those contributions have supported medical research advances, including the development of more than 30 FDA-approved treatments for neuromuscular disease since 2015.
